A typical autumn evening

Inspired by a sunset and a recent downpour, I stopped the car and took a few photos of the scene in front of me, this is what I came up with.

Winter lino print

Over the last few weeks I have been having another go at lino printing, taking some inspiration from the rooftops in Stockport I came up with an idea for a painting and a lino print. Its a time consuming project but very enjoyable and a bit messy, what's not to love.
The painting is finished and I will share soon, so for now here is a few pics of the lino print.

Halloween

I love this time of year, and even though my children are all grown up, I still love to get involved in the spooky goings on.This year I have made a 3 teir red velvet cake and decorated it with a sugar skull and chocolate cobwebs, taken all day, when I should have been catching up with some chores .The housework can wait for another day.

Commission

My latest painting, only a very small 7x9 acrylic on board.
A birthday present for an avid climber.
A recent trip to EICA:Ratho in Edinburgh was the inspiration for this painting.

Market Map

Inspired by all things old and nostalgic, I felt compelled to paint the town map, Stockport's Old town and market place, look up and you will see such amazing buildings, doing my research ,some that no longer exist have been replaced by real eyesores, such a shame , however what remain must be treasured. How great it would be to take a step back in time, just for a day, when the Market place and Underbanks were bustling during the early 20th Century, with none of the trappings of modern day.

Old Stockport.

Who would have thought it, 18 months ago I painted one of my favourite pictures, 'Old Stockport'
inspired by Stockport memories.
Now I have a full range of merchandise available Tea towels, Prints, cards and my latest addition mugs.
All of theses are available direct through me,
I shall be at the Christmas Handmade market on Sunday 1st November  or you can get in touch direct just e-mail me lucyab64@hotmail.co.uk
They are also available from the Tourist Information centre, in Staircase house Market place Stockport.
Its been great doing the research for my paintings, looking back on so many photos, flicking through my ever growing collection of Stockport books and of course talking to people and sharing stories.
I would still like to find out where the big sculpture that resided at the end of Merseyway ended up.

Stockport Cake

This a little cake I decorated as a thank you to Lynne and Jane,at the Studio in the Room at the top, they have been so supportive of my work and it's been a real pleasure to have held my first exhibition here, what a lovely friendly social space, if you just want to browse, buy something or call in for coffee, it's definitely one to visit if you find yourself in the Old Town.

Room at the top

What a fab evening, not only was I celebrating my birthday, but Stockport was packed , there was a real buzz about the place, I couldn't have been happier with the preview evening, it went so well and was realy well attended, it was lovely to see so many friends and family and meet lots of new folk too, the feedback has been great and has just confirmed that I am doing something right with my style of art.
Here are a few pics taken on the night.

Cheadle Commission

This is my latest painting.
The commission was for a painting with buildings and places that were significant in the lives of the customer, that meant something to them, so I had to approach it quite differently than my usual work.
An interesting challenge, and another go at a monochrome picture.
They were delighted with it and will soon be on their wall accompanying the B/W Print of 'Old Stockport'.

Family 2014

Last year my youngest brother and his family paid us a visit from New Zealand , its always great catching up with your family, especially when you are spread out all over the country , getting together retracing steps, places, adventures and such like from when we were younger.
I decided that following from my painting 1973 which I did last year, I would try and capture us all again a mere 40 years later.

Wash Day

We have had some wild, wet and windy weather this year, with the warmer weather arriving getting the washing out is always a sign of spring, that lovely fresh smell when you bring it in is one to savour.
My latest painting is one that such an image inspired me to paint.

New ...'Old Stockport' Tea Towel

I have just taken delivery of my new Stockport Tea towel,  'Old Stockport'

I have to say I'm pretty pleased the way it's turned out, this image captures all the things that no longer exist in our town, except the most prominent feature which will still be around for many years to come, of course ,our fantastic viaduct, the landmark that welcomes us home.

Stockport Paintings 2015

We have all done the drive into Stockport from Manchester either on the bus /taxi after a night out or in the car.
When you actually look up and ahead of you as you approach the town, just near the Magnet pub on the right, this is what you can see, it was quiet when I took my reference photos, and I was able to actually stand in the road, a different story altogether at rush hour! This was early December the Christmas tree is up.
This is acrylic on board 16"x20"

My next picture started life with a completely different theme, but drawn into Stockport again and started after the awful stormy weather we had just had, I thought I'd try and capture a cold ,windy rainy day in the market .We have all experienced this at some time or another I'm sure. It is cold blowy and snowing as I look out out the window while i'm writing this today.

Rolleiflex

I came up with an idea for my brothers birthday recently, with him being a photographer and all that what better then a pic of a camera, so I embarked on a lino print for him.

I have to say I am pretty pleased with how it turned out, I am finally getting to grips with this printing stuff.

Media City

My latest painting was inspired by my visits to Media City over the summer, having visited a few times either going to the Lowry for the latest exhibition or show, and spending time in the shops, and cafes , a stroll down to the waters edge ,watching kids having great fun at the Watersports centre.
One particular day, the sky was blue, the sun was shining and the reflections on the water looked amazing, I thought I'd try and capture a bit of this, its hard to imagine that only a few years ago there was nothing here, just empty wasteland ripe for development.
